DeVito, Danny

Attore, regista e produttore cinematografico statunitense (n. Neptune, New Jersey, 1944). Dopo essere apparso in One flew over the cuckoo's nest (1975) e Terms of endearment (Voglia di tenerezza, 1983), ha mostrato il suo talento in Romancing the stone (All'inseguimento della pietra verde, 1984), Wise guys (Cadaveri e compari, 1986) e Ruthless people (Per favore, ammazzatemi mia moglie, 1986). La bassa statura e una comicità esuberante e aggressiva, ai limiti del cinismo, hanno caratterizzato i suoi personaggi anche in Twins (1988), Other people's money (1991), Junior (1994), Get shorty (1996), Mars attacks! (1996). Ha messo in evidenza inoltre una notevole versatilità interpretando ruoli drammatici: Batman returns (1992), Jack the bear (Un eroe piccolo piccolo, 1993), The rainmaker (L'uomo della pioggia, 1997), L. A. confidential (1997), The big kahuna (1999), Man on the moon (1999). Ha poi recitato in Big Fish (2003), Be Cool (2005), Relative Strangers (2006), Deck the Halls (Conciati per le feste, 2006), Solitary men (2009), Girl walks into a bar (2011), All the Wilderness (2014), Wiener-Dog (2016), Dumbo (2019). Come regista ha realizzato: Throw momma from the train (1987), The war of the Roses (1989), Hoffa (Hoffa. Santo o mafioso?, 1992), Matilda (Matilda 6 mitica, 1996), Death to Smoochy (2002) e Duplex (2003).
